AMPLIACIÓN

Built project, 2020 / Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina

The extension of the house is located towards the back of the lot, facing east. It accommodates a space capable of serving multiple purposes: a space for social gatherings, a workspace and library, a storage room, a workshop, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a laundry area. The design arranges the inhabited spaces by redefining the traditional boundaries typically used to contain their functions.

In response to this premise, a partition on the left side organizes the workshop and provides access to the storage area and laundry room. On the right side, a grill faces the social space, and by being set back from the party wall, it clears an area to house the bathroom behind it. Together, these sections free up the central space, where recreational and work activities take place.

At the core, serving as a fundamental organizing element, a reversible wooden prismatic volume both divides and connects the social and service areas, while also integrating all appliances related to the laundry and kitchen. This volume also functions as a sideboard, allowing it to be used on all sides depending on the activity being carried out, thereby enabling a practical and flexible living experience in the spaces it frees up. Strategically positioned without adjoining walls or roof, it frames views and provides the necessary intimacy for both private and social activities to coexist without the need for complete spatial separation

The lightweight roof structure consists of both opaque and translucent sections. The translucent surface is placed at the rear of the space, ensuring diffused natural lighting throughout the day while also supporting vegetation growth over the sideboard. Benefiting from its configuration and translucent materiality, integrated lighting within the structure allows for backlighting, simulating daytime ambiance and smoothing the transition between day and night.

Lastly, the arrangement of the openings system allows the entire front of the social area to be cleared, opening up the space for integration with the garden and extending its activities outdoors.
