LA TABA

Built project, 2024 / Funes, Santa Fe, Argentina

La Taba is a project that explores the inherent tension between intimacy and openness at the core of any weekend house. The proposal is primarily defined by an open prismatic volume placed over the regulated retreat of the lot, leaving a backyard towards its rear end. This volume is materialized in screened brick walls, defined by a module that can be either open or closed to respond to the structural, programmatic climatic and spatial needs of its interior.

The prism partially folds, describing an introspective path that closes in on itself to contain the private core of the program in its core, granting intimacy and protection. This core is rotated 25 degrees from the street to optimize orientations, define courtyards, and enable cross-views. Its program is the minimum necessary to enjoy a plot of land on the outskirts of the city of Rosario.

As if inviting one to explore it, the facade presents the first fold, which defines the garage and the entrance to the house; from there, the initial box becomes visually permeable to the offering a glimpse of the greenery at the back of the lot. The second fold delineates the social area on one side and the private and service spaces on the other: a small corridor, a bedroom that opens onto its own patio, the bathroom and the storage room. The third fold organizes the grill area - the Argentinian primeval space for cooking and social gathering - in close proximity to the living room, allowing integration between these spaces.

The outcome of this folding of the walls is a smaller box, nested by the main volume and rotated relative to it. The larger box guarantees privacy, security and consistent ventilation throughout its interiors, while the smaller box delineates interior spaces and galleries. The last spatial adjustment made, a break in the concrete slab, gives prominence to the dining area and creates a terrace that also allows for potential expansion without disrupting the main volume.
